The Bournemouth & Poole College is joining forces with the National Apprenticeship Service to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, which is currently in its 10th year.

National Apprenticeship week, which will run from Monday March 6 to Friday March 10, will be celebrated by The College to draw attention to apprenticeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the local economy.

The College is set to host an open event on Wednesday March 8 from 4pm for those who are considering studying at The College, giving them the opportunity to meet with current students, staff and local employers who offer apprenticeships.

Theresa Moore, director of apprenticeships from The Bournemouth & Poole College, said: ‘‘The College feels it is essential to back Government funded schemes such as National Apprenticeship Week as it is an opportunity to promote the idea that apprenticeships are providing a ladder of opportunity to people who are contemplating investing in their future career with an apprenticeship.

‘‘We are proud to say that an impressive 94 per cent of our apprentices continue with their apprenticeship employer or gain employment elsewhere.’’

Jenny Mauger, building and maintenance manager at Bournemouth Borough Council, added: ‘‘It is important for us to invest in our communities and in our workforce to make sure that we are continually improving and innovating. Part of being a community employer is working with local training providers and students to create real opportunities and bring about changes that matter.

‘‘We have been impressed with the support and communication that we have received from The College. Over the years we have been able to draw on their industry specific knowledge and access a talent pool that wouldn’t have been available to us otherwise.’’

George Smith, 19, electrical installation apprentice with Bournemouth Borough Council, said: ‘‘I am amazed by how much I have achieved so far on my apprenticeship. Now that I am in my third year of my apprenticeship I can clearly see that the skills that I am learning are meeting the demand that is required in my chosen field.’’
