BSc (Hons) 3D Computer Generated Imagery
3D CGI
For more than a decade our 3D CGI programme has been training students and preparing them for work.
3D CGI is a thriving and diverse industry that could see you working in motion capture, character design or architectural visualisation. Our close links to industry has meant we've placed students in over 100 companies including many of the big name such as Codemasters, Double Negative and Visualhouse.
David Hobson MA BSc (Hons) PGCE
Before joining the CGI staff team in 2018, David was, for 23 years, a Director at 3D Studio Ltd, a Dorset based Computer Aided Design, 3D visualisation and software training company. This work enabled David to develop many skills necessary for effective 3D animation and visualisation including architectural surveying, visualisation, animation, filmmaking and software training. In 2005 David became the first UK based Autodesk Certified Instructor (ACI) for 3ds Max, and in 2012 became a Master Member of the Institute of Videography (IOV). As an ACI, David worked with many architectural, product design and media studios providing bespoke software training for a vast array of creative artists. David has a first-class honours degree in 3D Animation & Visualisation, and a master’s degree in Creative and Media Education, both from Bournemouth University. Now as the 3D CGI Programme Lead, David’s focus is to develop, maintain and deliver relevant degree courses with valuable input from various industry partners. In all of this, David has a real passion to see the CGI students grow into talented and confident 3D artists.
Sunil Kumar MA BSc (Hons) CertEd
Sunil has over 15 years’ experience as a talented CGI artist working for a number of high-profile studios including Aardman, Chinchilla, Saddington Baynes, Art & Graft and Smoke & Mirrors. As a lecturer on the CGI course since 2019, and with a master’s degree in 3D Animation from Bournemouth University, Sunil specialises in 3D visual development using Autodesk Maya and Adobe Substance 3D Painter, as well as the industry leading digital sculpting tool ZBrush. In all work, Sunil encourages students to develop effective storytelling, through detailed research, observation and referencing. With an eye for detail, an understanding of lighting and texturing procedures and cinematic techniques, Sunil works hard to support students in the creation of stunning 3D visuals and animations.
Kieran Hall BSc (Hons)
Kieran joined the GCI staff team in January 2022, having graduated with a first-class honour’s degree from this very course in 2020. During his time studying here, Kieran clearly demonstrated a passion for all things CGI and in particular VFX and real time rending applications such as Unreal Engine and Twinmotion. So, when we were looking for someone to join the team and develop our Virtual Production pipeline, Kieran was the obvious choice. He now shares his time between lecturing in VFX and Virtual Production on our 3D CGI degree courses at BPC, and working at Treehouse Digital, a Poole based virtual production studio, where he works on many exciting projects for the likes of Netflix, Amazon, the BBC and Epic Games.
"Since graduating I’ve worked in film VFX for Framestore, Moving Picture Company and Platige Image, contributing shots for Wrath of the Titans, 47Ronin, Gravity, The Jungle Book, Martian plus many others."
