This is a full-time course for students aged 16-18 designed to give you the opportunity to gain a qualification and progress onto our Level 2 Plastering course, or to prepare you to enter full-time work in the Construction Industry.

The course is based at our facility at the North Road campus in Poole.

This study programme also includes Personal Development, Employability and Work Experience, and depending on GCSE grades on entry, may include GCSE or Functional Skills in Maths and/or English.

The course gives learners the opportunity to develop skills at their own pace and you will be assessed through a series of practical assessments and online tests throughout the year.

This is a one-year Full-Time programme which you will need to attend approximately three to four days of the week, for 36 weeks.

What the course leads to

What courses can I do after this? 

On successful completion of this course you will be able to progress on to the Level 1 Diploma in Plastering, Employment or Apprenticeship Training. It is not possible to become fully qualified unless you gain employment in the industry and are assessed on site.

What do I need to apply

To do this course you should have... 

You will need to achieve GCSEs Grades 9-4 (formerly D-G) including English and Maths Grades 3-1 (formerly D-G). Alternatively successful completion of a Foundation Entry Level 3 qualification and have achieved an Entry Level 3 Functional Skill in English and maths.

What about work experience? 

You will be expected to complete 30 hours of work-based experience activities.

Course Content 

The Level 1 Certificate is made up of a number of different types of units both knowledge and practical. A full qualification requires you to successfully complete and pass all the units.
Knowledge covered:

  • Know how to carry out safe working practices
  • Knowledge of information and communication with others
  • Knowledge of building methods and construction technology
  • Know how to prepare background surfaces and plaster materials
  • Know how to apply plastering materials to internal backgrounds
  • Know how to produce components from moulds

Practical units are:
