Course Overview

This study programme offers a broad introduction to Travel and Tourism at Intermediate level and aims to prepare you for further study in this subject area. The course has been developed in consultation with employers in the travel and tourism industry, so you can be sure that you are developing relevant skills for your future career. The qualification is equivalent to NVQ Level 2 and is widely recognised by industry and taught within a grade 1 award winning department.

The units studied include:

•  Retail travel services
•  Structure of the UK travel industry
•  Interpersonal Skills for the travel and tourism workplace 
•  Worldwide travel and tourism destinations

You will also study GCSE English and Maths or Functional Skills at the appropriate level.

You will require a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades A*-D including English and maths grades 9-3 (formerly A*-D) and science for some programmes. Alternatively successful completion of a relevant Level 1 qualification and have achieved a Level 1 Functional Skill in English and maths. An active interest in the travel and tourism industry is also desirable.

Assesment is through coursework which could include

  • Research tasks (part of an assignment)
  • Short-answer questions (part of an assignment)
  • Practical tasks - role plays (part of an assignment)
  • Online e-assessments.
     

You will have the opportunity to take part in one weeks work experience  as part of your study programme.

Progression on to the Level 3 Diploma in Travel and Tourism or other related Level 3 course. Alternatively direct employment into the travel and tourism industry or apprenticeship training.

This study programme provides a number of opportunities to experience the tourism industry at first hand through educational visits, visiting speakers, and the practical experience of our team of lecturers, all of whom have had many years working in various aspects of the Tourism industry. Job roles within the travel and tourism industry including:
• Holiday representative
• Tour guide
• Tourist information centre assistant
• Travel agent.
 

The fee for 16 - 19 yr olds for this course is £140 for educational visits and an atlas.

There is a very high level of support for this course. Every student will have regular frequent contact with a personal tutor who will coach you. We will ensure you feel confident about your progress and your course work.
