Renowned chef Cyrus Todiwala spiced things up in the kitchen on a visit to The Bournemouth & Poole College.
Cyrus, the BBC’s 2014 'Food Personality of the Year' and his wife Pervin, supervised and inspired Specialised Chef Scholarship students to create a mouth-watering seven course feast for around 60 diners at The College’s Escoffier Restaurant.
A seminar to promote the role of women in STEM held at The Bournemouth and Poole College was an outstanding success. More than 80 delegates packed into the main STEM lecture theatre to confront the issue of why women are under-represented in the sciences.
The vast majority of attendees to the event were women and their determination to breakdown gender stereotypes was clear. The idea that women are less dedicated to the cause of science or cannot contribute to engineering and sciences is not sustainable.
Two students from The Bournemouth & Poole College have accepted offers to study at one of the world’s leading music schools, Trinity College, London.
Dan Grinstead, a brilliant young cellist from Poole, and pianist Yuan Li, also known as Anny, have been invited to join the famous conservatoire in September.
The college is building quite a reputation for developing musical talent. Last year Bournemouth’s Jack Bond, a double bass player also progressed from the college to Trinity, with a £6,000 scholarship.
In 2009, while on patrol in Afghanistan, Royal Marine Toby Gutteridge was struck by a bullet to his neck, resulting in him being flown back to the UK badly wounded and on the brink of death.
Although Toby’s injuries have left him paralysed from the neck down, he considers himself lucky to be alive as his chances of survival were slim. Doctors felt that if Toby did survive he would be left with permanent brain damage as a result.
The sparkling futures of a group of aspiring young chefs were toasted with English sparkling wine last week at the National Final of the Teflon® Diamond Standards Awards 2015.
