Applications

You will need to apply on-line electronically through www.ucas.ac.uk/students/apply/ the Universities and Colleges Admission Service (UCAS) Schools, colleges and careers offices.

When you submit electronic applications, you should ensure that  your institution is registered to use this service. Check with your school, college or local advice and guidance office if you are unsure.

International apply' is a web based application system that also allows international applicants who are not currently attending a school or college to apply to higher education in the UK through UCAS. For further information, please visit the UCAS website: www.ucas.ac.uk

For international students unable to apply electronically you can write from outside the UK, and send a payment of £11 sterling made payable to ‘UCAS’ to cover postage and packing. For entry requirements see the relevant subject entry.

When to Apply

Students applying for places to start in Autumn 2012 can  apply on-line through UCAS until 30th June 2012 (see below ).

UCAS can receive applications for entry in Autumn 2012 from mid September 2011. The closing date for the receipt of applications is 15th January 2012. These deadlines will not apply to non-EU students but you are encouraged to apply early.

If you are planning to return your UCAS application through your school or college, you should check to see if they advise a specific deadline.

From 15 January to 30 June 2012,  late on-line applications are accepted by UCAS but students should understand that they are considered by institutions at their discretion.  If an application is made to UCAS after 30 June 2012, it will be entered into Clearing.

UCAS Extra

For students applying for September 2012 UCAS Extra is available.

Students who have applied but do not hold any offers from their five applications have the opportunity to make further applications through the UCAS Extra system. This opens on the 25th February 2012 and closes on 6th July 2012. Eligible students will be informed at the time. For further information, visit the website www.ucas.ac.uk

Completing the Application Form

The UCAS form must be completed online at www.ucas.com. Follow the UCAS instructions carefully. It is particularly important to enter the code names and numbers correctly. The code for Bournemouth University is BMTH B50. Note that all courses in this brochure are taught at The Bournemouth & Poole College, and that you must enter the campus code P in section 3(d) of the UCAS form.

The Personal Statement

One of the most important parts of the UCAS Form is your Personal Statement. What you choose to tell us about yourself is vital to the success of your application. Mention your interest relevant to the programme and your reasons for choosing the field of study. Show that you have learnt from experience - include such things as weekend jobs or holiday activities. Link all your experiences to the skills the programme is looking for. If you have a Record of Achievement, you should mention that as well. This is your opportunity to 'sell' yourself to us, so go for it.

Applying for an Academic Credit

You may be able to apply for credit to join a programme at a later stage than the first year, on the basis of other higher education qualifications or learning from substantial relevant work experience. Strict rules apply and will need to be discussed with the Course Manager.

Application Fee

Each application sent to UCAS must be accompanied by the appropriate fee. Everyone is entitled to complete one application that covers up to five programmes. Remember to enclose your fee £11.00 for a single choice and £22.00 for a multiple application.

Late applicants for 2012 Entry only wishing to apply to Bournemouth University

Please send the completed UCAS application direct to UCAS together with a cheque made payable to UCAS for £11.00 (one course, single institution).

Applying for Deferred Entry

The College is pleased to consider applications during 2011-2012 for entry in Autumn 2013 but you should note that:

• the conditions of any offers made must be satisfied by 31 August 2012.
• if you are accepted for deferred entry in 2013, you may not subsequently apply through UCAS in 2012-2013 unless you have withdrawn your original application by 30 September 2012.

Applying for a Part Time Course

Please note that applications for part time courses are not made through UCAS.  All applications for part time Foundation Degree courses and HNC's must be made directly to The College.  Applications forms are available from the Higher Education Unit, Room 166, The Lansdowne, Bournemouth BH1 3JJ
