Poole Hospital has launched a new service offering additional support for students with diabetes who attend The Bournemouth & Poole College. The first session focussed on managing diabetes during exams as the examination season is coming up very soon.

The new service is provided by the Young People’s Diabetes Service, who are based at the diabetes centre at Poole Hospital. The Young People’s Diabetes Specialist Nurse works with this transition age group (16-22 years) and the clinics are offered every month at Bournemouth & Poole College.

The Bournemouth & Poole College is celebrating finding over 3,000 of their students jobs since 2012. Employability is a key theme at the college with students being able to access expert Careers Advice and Guidance, and an in-house recruitment service, in partnership with Reed NCFE, based in eLabs. The college also has close links with local, national and international employers.

Congratulations to former Bournemouth & Poole College student Jake Wilson, whose skill and commitment in the world of carpentry has been recognised by the profession’s leading body.

Jake, 19, from Broadstone, has excelled in The Institute of Carpenter’s Regional Fine Craft Award for 2015. He won the Southern Regional competition and also came 4th nationally for his work on a kitchen drawer front made in European Redwood.

The musical ambitions of former Bournemouth & Poole College student Sam Ray Butler have taken a big stride forward after he was offered a session at the BBC’s popular Live Lounge.

Sam (pictured in action in the BBC studio) was invited to broadcast his work in regional Live Lounge sessions covering Bristol, Brighton and the Isle of Wight.

Bournemouth & Poole College is celebrating after picking up a UK Gold Centre award at the International Association of Book-keepers’ Finance and Small Business Awards ceremony, held in the House of Commons.

The awards event attracted educational institutions and organisations from right across the globe.

Malcolm Trotter, Chief Executive of the IAB, said: “Bournemouth & Poole College has demonstrated consistently high standards of performance and was awarded the title for its outstanding achievements with regards to its students studying for IAB qualifications”.
