The BTEC National Extended Diploma students in Hospitality really put on a show for their final assessment on planning and staging an event.  A fantastical and creative display of decorations and props transformed The Escoffier into a magical dream world. Madhatter’s hats adorned the table centre pieces and an array of toadstools, flowers and lights created a sparkling atmosphere.

The set was designed and created by Kelly Bailey, chef patisserie for the evening alongside event co-ordinator Chloe Coxhill (Alice for the evening).

Renowned chef Cyrus Todiwala spiced things up in the kitchen on a visit to The Bournemouth & Poole College.

Cyrus, the BBC’s 2014 'Food Personality of the Year' and his wife Pervin, supervised and inspired Specialised Chef Scholarship students to create a mouth-watering seven course feast for around 60 diners at The College’s Escoffier Restaurant.

A seminar to promote the role of women in STEM held at The Bournemouth and Poole College was an outstanding success. More than 80 delegates packed into the main STEM lecture theatre to confront the issue of why women are under-represented in the sciences.

The vast majority of attendees to the event were women and their determination to breakdown gender stereotypes was clear. The idea that women are less dedicated to the cause of science or cannot contribute to engineering and sciences is not sustainable.

The Hospitality and Catering department were beaming with pride when The BTEC National Extended Diploma students in Hospitality showcased their final assessment on planning and staging an event.  It was a huge success that treated customers to a welcome drink of a Cactus Bite, a cocktail created by Bar Supervisor Bruce MacDonald, closely followed by a five course menu designed by Head Chef Paige Smith assisted by her Sous Chef Clark Montano.

Two students from The Bournemouth & Poole College have accepted offers to study at one of the world’s leading music schools, Trinity College, London.

Dan Grinstead, a brilliant young cellist from Poole, and pianist Yuan Li, also known as Anny, have been invited to join the famous conservatoire in September.

The college is building quite a reputation for developing musical talent. Last year Bournemouth’s Jack Bond, a double bass player also progressed from the college to Trinity, with a £6,000 scholarship.
