Goodwood race track based in Chichester, was the place to be for a group of Bournemouth & Poole College engineering apprentices, as they tested their Greenpower car “Knife n Fork it!”

The race team, which includes Natasha Hockey, Will Taylor, Ryan Comradie and Tyla Munday, are all completing their Apprenticeship training at Cobham plc. Over the past couple of months the team have been working hard on the race car, often giving up their spare time to ensure it meets the strict rules as set by Greenpower.

Level 3 apprentice, Jessica Edwards, shone at a recent Institute of Hospitality Student Awards, as she was crowned 'Institute of Hospitality - Southern Branch, Pastry Chef Student of the Year'.

Jessica who is on the Specialised Chef programme at The College, is carrying out her placement at the Corinthia Hotel, London. She fought off stiff competition to be awarded the accolade which was sponsored by Yate Supplies. Jessica, along with the other 11 finalists across three categories, were invited to an awards ceremony held at Lainston House Hotel near Winchester.

The Bournemouth & Poole College is due to host the first Great British Barber Bash (GBBB) in Dorset on Tuesday May 9 from 5:45pm.

Hair and barber professionals in the area, as well as students studying hair and barbering apprenticeships, are encouraged to attend the national event. Five barber industry professionals will be at the event to give a three hour in-depth presentation showcasing the latest cuts and trends of the trade.

The Bournemouth & Poole College is urging adults who are considering a career change or wishing to gain further qualifications to enrol onto an Access to Higher Education course.

Access to Higher Education diplomas are designed specifically for adults who are looking to study a higher education course, but may not have the relevant entry qualifications needed. The College offers a variety of Access courses which specialise in subjects ranging from forensic science to media.

The HEFCE (Higher Education Funding council for England) has awarded a grant of £50,000 to Bournemouth & Poole College’s project ‘Speak Out and Step Up’ as part of its Catalyst Fund. The fund commits up to £30 million in annual funding. This money aims to drive innovation in the HE sector, enhance excellence and efficiency in HE, and support innovative solutions.
