Earlier this week the college’s Students’ Union, BPCSU hosted their first Social Responsibility Day of the year with mental health as an important theme.
This year, Dorset Mind has been chosen by students to be charity of the year. With World Mental Health Day taking place today, 10th October, it was fitting that students were able to meet Pete Thompson, a former student and college staff member, who has won the ITV Pride of Britain Fundraising Award for supporting mental health causes including for Dorset Mind.
The College’s Hairdressing and Barbering students were treated to an inspirational workshop on how to deliver Lee Stafford’s Vintage Tong Recipe by Extreme Hair Wars judge Martyn Holmes. Along with witnessing his skills in action, Martyn invited the students to get involved in his demonstration on a live model. Later in the afternoon he worked with students in the college’s Flaunt Hair salon as they put their learning to the test re-creating the look.
Students are benefitting from a Wellbeing Wagon, all-day drop-in sessions, welfare and mental health coaches and a sensory room at the Bournemouth & Poole College.
