Hairdressing students off to the final of Concept Hair Apprentice of the Year

Students from Bournemouth & Poole’s Hairdressing department entered the regional heat of Concept Hair Apprentice of the Year at Petroc College in Devon. We’re delighted that two of our students, Christina Keen and Danielle Bond, took the top spots and secured their places in the grand-final.

The competition had 8 categories, including Styling, Hair Up, Barbering and Avant-garde. Competitors had to work on live models, whose make-up, clothes and accessories had to complement and enhance the overall look.

Danielle was winner of the Colouring category and Christina was winner of both the Hair Up and Avant-garde categories. Christina and Danielle will be competing in the grand-final on 26th March at L’Oréal Professional Academy.

Bournemouth & Poole College were also delighted that Kathy Hughes received runner-up in the Hair Up category and High Praise in the Avant-garde category, and our Barbering entrant also received High Praise.

The Hairdressing team said: “We were delighted to have taken part in the new Concept Hair Apprentice of the Year competition. We are extremely proud of all of our students who took part. As well as achieving three first place positions, our students also received runner up in Avant-garde, Hair Up and Colour categories and High Praise was given to our Barbering entrant. We wish Christina and Danielle the best of luck for the final in March.”

The competition is run by Concept Magazine, the only magazine for hairdressing and barbering students and apprentices. Recently launched, it is distributed to almost every college in the UK three times a year to coincide with the academic terms. It contains inspiration, revision exercises, industry news, features, competitions and much more, making it the ideal study companion.
