College Launches Higher Education Animation Suite to Train the Next Generation of Creative Talent
We are proud to have launched our Stop Motion Animation Suite, marking a significant step forward in the development of specialist creative and digital facilities and degree-level provision at University Centre Poole.
Designed to replicate a professional animation production environment, the bespoke studio is equipped with industry-standard tools and technologies used in leading stop motion animation studios. The new facility provides Higher Education students with an immersive, hands-on experience that reflects real studio workflows, preparing them for careers in the animation and creative industries.
Stuart Palmer, Director of Creative, Digital, Tech and Service Industries, said: “Our new Stop Motion Studio is a major step forward for creative and digital education in Dorset. It brings our strategy to life; investing in industry-standard facilities, supporting the industry priorities oof the area and giving young people in our community the tools and confidence to enter a growing animation and digital sector. The creative talent is here in Dorset, our role is to unlock it and this new studio will no doubt nurture the BAFTA winners of the future.”
The state-of-the-art suite comprises eight individual studio spaces, each fitted with professional lighting rigs, Canon mirrorless cameras and laptops running Dragonframe, the market-leading stop motion software trusted by studios including Aardman.
Students also benefit from a broad range of materials and fabrication tools, including an airbrush booth, large 3D filament printer, resign 3D printer for high-detail modelling, polymer clay baking facilities and equipment for mould making and foam latex production. This enables learners to design and build their own sets and puppets from concept to completion.
The launch of this new facility forms part of our ongoing commitment to the delivery of industry-aligned Higher Education, following the launch of University Centre Poole in 2024.
The Stop Motion Animation Suite was officially unveiled at the College’s Poole Campus on 5th December in a ceremony led by MP Neil Duncan-Jordan alongside Phil Sayles Principal and CEO. The event was also attended by representatives from The Arts University Bournemouth.
The development of this new specialist animation studio further demonstrates our strategic focus on nurturing professional skills, supporting sector growth, and equipping students with the practical experience required to succeed in a thriving creative industry landscape.
