College Apprentices Commended at Dorset County Hospital Apprenticeship Awards
Two outstanding college apprentices who are completing their work placements at Dorset County Hospital were acknowledged at a special awards ceremony held during National Apprenticeships Week.
Frances and Jess, who are both studying on the Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship, were given a framed certificate and vouchers in celebration of their success.
Frances, who works in the Radiology department, received the Role Model Apprentice Award. As the first apprentice from Radiology to go through the programme, she said the recognition came as a surprise. She commented: “It was really nice to feel appreciated and to be recognised. I didn’t expect it at all. I just got a call saying I had won a prize, but they didn’t tell me which one until the day.” Frances, who currently works as a Radiology Department Assistant (or RDA), helps radiographers and the radiologist with looking after patients and has worked in the role since 2019.
Frances explained that her apprenticeship has opened doors for her. She says that being a trailblazer for the department is great, and now the Radiology department has secured funding for a further apprentice from September. Frances said: “It’s shown me that I can go on and do something further. I’m now interested in continuing on to do the Level 4 Nursing Associate apprenticeship, but in the Theatre pathway.”
Jess was awarded the Excellence in Functional Skills Award for her Maths studies.
The Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker is a ground-breaking apprenticeship that combines core course modules of policies and standards, health and safety monitoring and confidential record keeping. Students will also study optional modules relating to the pathway they choose, from either Adult Nursing, Theatres, Allied Health (Therapies), Maternity or Mental Health. ,
By working closely with Dorset County Hospital, the college delivers high-quality training that supports apprentices’ day-to-day roles while enhancing their long-term career prospects within the NHS. The course continues to grow in popularity and apprentices are advised to apply early.
Bournemouth and Poole College is proud to work in partnership with Dorset County Hospital to deliver this exceptional apprenticeship, equipping students with the practical skills and knowledge needed to help develop an NHS Fit for the Future.
