The Level 4 Certificate in Education & Training (CET) is a nationally recognised qualification for individuals who are teaching or training, or who would like to progress into a teaching role within Further Education, adult learning, work-based learning, community education or training environments. The course develops practical teaching skills and understanding of effective learning, helping learners become confident and reflective practitioners.
Successful learners will gain a solid foundation in the roles and responsibilities of a teacher or trainer, including understanding key legislation, promoting equality, diversity and inclusion, and meeting the diverse needs of learners.
The qualification equips trainees with the skills to use initial and diagnostic assessments effectively, plan and deliver inclusive learning sessions, and assess learner progress. Learners will also develop the ability to select and use appropriate resources to create engaging and effective learning experiences.
This course is for current teachers, trainers, instructors, workplace trainers, assessors, FE lecturers, adult learning practitioners and individuals wishing to move into a teaching or training role.
To do this course you must be educated to at least level 3 in the subject you wish to teach. Level 2 English & Maths (or to be achieved by the end of the course) and a guaranteed minimum of 30 hours teaching (paid or voluntary) over the duration of the course.
Assessment includes written assignments, professional discussions, teaching observations, planning and evaluation of teaching sessions, and a portfolio of evidence. There are no formal examinations.
Successful completion can lead to the Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (FE & Skills), a Learning & Skills Teacher Apprenticeship, and further professional development opportunities.
Successful completion of this qualification can provide a route into teaching, training, assessing or supporting learning in a range of educational and workplace settings. It equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills needed to deliver inclusive teaching and learning, and can support progression to further teacher training qualifications, such as the Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (Further Education and Skills). The qualification can also enhance career opportunities for those looking to develop their professional practice or take on teaching and training responsibilities within their current role.
