Students Parliament Lead Conversations on Political Elections, Wellbeing and Homelessness
Student Parliament took place on the April 22nd at our Poole Campus, bringing together a fantastic turnout of Student Reps for a session focused on important issues affecting young people and the wider community.
The meeting introduced students to the importance of politics and encouraged greater awareness of the role young people play in shaping society. A key topic of discussion was the upcoming local elections on the 7th of May, highlighting why it is essential for students to stay informed, get involved, and use their voices. To further promote awareness, the importance of sharing information across college platforms, including social media, was also recognised.
Students also explored the issue of homelessness with board member Rachel Trickey, who is also the Local Delivery Lead for Homewards in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (The Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales), a programme that helps prevent youth homelessness. Discussions included ways to better tackle the challenges faced by vulnerable individuals within the local area. The session provided valuable information on support services available to those who may be struggling, ensuring students are more aware of where to seek help for themselves or others in times of need.
Another major focus was improving awareness of student support systems within Bournemouth and Poole College itself. Discussions centred around how existing resources, guidance services, and wellbeing support could be made more visible and better known throughout the college community.
The Student Parliament session was highly successful and impactful, creating meaningful conversations around politics, social responsibility, and student wellbeing. With strong student participation and a positive atmosphere, the meeting demonstrated the power of student voice in raising awareness and positive change across the college.
