In October, the college was honoured to welcome representatives from Yamaha Training Europe and Yamaha Training Japan to its Poole Campus for a strategic visit aimed at enhancing collaboration and developing future opportunities within the field of Marine Engineering education.

The delegation comprised:

  • Samuel Watson, Service and Development Manager
  • Eric Thornthwaite, Workshop Coordinator
  • Nagae-san, Senior Service Coordinator
  • Hashimoto-san, Marine Training YME

During the visit, guests were given an extensive tour of the college’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the Marine Centre, Advanced Engineering Centre, University Centre, the Health and Care Academy, and the Sunseeker Skills Academy. These facilities showcase the College’s commitment to delivering industry-led education and providing students with access to professional-grade resources and technologies.

The itinerary also included a visit to the Fulcrum Centre training site, where the Yamaha representatives explored the College’s specialist carpentry, boat building, and composite workshops. Here, they observed students and apprentices undertaking practical training aligned with real-world marine industry practices.

This visit forms part of an ongoing collaboration between Bournemouth and Poole College and Yamaha, aimed at strengthening industry partnerships and expanding training opportunities for Marine Engineering students. Through this partnership, the College seeks to align its curriculum even more closely with industry standards, ensuring that graduates are equipped with the technical skills, knowledge, and experience required by employers across the global marine sector.

“We are delighted to build on our strong relationship with Yamaha,” said James Hills, Director of Learning for Engineering, Professional and Public Industries.  “This partnership represents a shared commitment to excellence in Marine Engineering education and to supporting the next generation of skilled professionals entering the industry.”

The college looks forward to continuing its collaboration with Yamaha to further develop training programmes, enhance student experiences, and contribute to the continued success and innovation of the Marine Engineering sector.
