Fright Night: Bournemouth & Poole College Students Take on Thorpe Park
As the first half term came to a close, students from across Bournemouth & Poole College celebrated their achievements with a thrilling day out at Thorpe Park Fright Night. Organised by the Student Engagement and Enrichment Team, the trip offered students a well-deserved opportunity to unwind, and challenge their fears on some of the UK’s most exhilarating rides.
This year’s trip was one for the record books. After an incredible 500+ sign-ups during Induction Week, 187 students secured their place, making it the College’s largest Thorpe Park trip to date, with triple the number of attendees from the previous year. The huge interest and turnout reflected not only the growing enthusiasm for enrichment activities but also the strong sense of community that continues to thrive across the College.
Departing bright and early, students and staff made their way to Thorpe Park, ready for a day of adrenaline-fuelled adventure. The highlight of the day was Hyperia, the UK’s tallest rollercoaster, which opened earlier this year and quickly became a must-ride attraction.
As daylight faded and the park transformed into its spooky Fright Night setting, students braved haunted mazes, eerie walk-through experiences, and unexpected jump scares that had everyone laughing, screaming, and clinging to their friends. The combination of rollercoasters and Halloween thrills made the day unforgettable.
“I had the best time! I love going to Thorpe Park — it was even better to go for Fright Night and experience the mazes!”
– E.M, Health and Social Care
“I was so happy I got to go on Hyperia, the UK’s tallest rollercoaster! It was amazing, I screamed so much! It was really busy, but such a great day with friends.”
– J.F, Marine Engineering
Beyond the adrenaline, the trip offered students the chance to relax and socialise outside of their usual classroom environments. Many said it helped them build new friendships and feel more connected to the wider College community, especially after such a busy start to the academic year.
“It was fantastic to see so many of our students getting involved and enjoying themselves,” said a member of the Student Engagement and Enrichment Team. “Trips like this really help bring our community together - it’s about celebrating our students’ hard work and giving them opportunities to make lasting memories.”
A huge thank you goes to all staff and students who helped make the Thorpe Park Fright Night trip such a resounding success. With record participation, endless smiles, and plenty of screams, it’s safe to say this year’s event was one the College won’t forget anytime soon.
