Bournemouth & Poole College and Yamaha Motor Europe Launch Partnership to Advance Marine Engineering Education
On 25th April, the Marine Engineering team at Bournemouth and Poole College proudly hosted representatives from the Training and Development division of Yamaha Motor Europe, marking the beginning of a promising new partnership aimed at enhancing marine education and strengthening the industry workforce.
The collaboration between the college and Yamaha is built on a shared commitment to equipping the next generation of marine engineers with the practical skills and knowledge required for success in the maritime sector. A key highlight of the visit was Yamaha’s generous donation of a fully sectioned 100hp outboard engine—an invaluable educational asset that will play a central role in enhancing hands-on learning for students.
This significant contribution will allow learners to gain practical experience across a wider range of industry-relevant equipment. With many of Bournemouth and Poole College’s marine engineering apprentices already working with Yamaha engines in the field, the addition of this advanced training resource will ensure a deeper understanding of the systems they encounter on a daily basis.
Yamaha Motor Europe’s alignment with the same dealer networks that employ Bournemouth and Poole College’s apprentices further strengthens the synergy between both organisations. To further support this partnership, the college’s Marine Engineering teaching staff have been invited to Yamaha’s European training centre, where they will gain access to additional resources and advanced training to share with students.
“This partnership will make a tangible difference to the quality of education we’re able to provide,” said Peter Leech, Learning Manager for Marine, Boatbuilding and Automotive at Bournemouth and Poole College. “We are incredibly grateful to Yamaha for their support and look forward to working together to deliver world-class training and develop a highly skilled, future-ready workforce for the marine industry.”
Bournemouth and Poole College extends its sincere thanks to Samuel Watson, Alan Rodriguez Monteiro, and the entire Yamaha Motor Europe team for their dedication to marine education and workforce development.
