Bournemouth and Poole College Students Deliver Live Festival Media Project
Bournemouth and Poole College students recently took part in an exciting large-scale live brief in collaboration with Bournemouth Writing Festival, gaining valuable, hands-on industry experience across a variety of creative and production roles.
The project brought together students from multiple courses, including Level 3 Esports and Content Creation (Year 1 and Year 2), Level 3 Media (Year 2), and Degree-Level learners from the FdA Esports Production, Broadcast & Events course. Working in a fast-paced, live environment, students were tasked with capturing and producing content from across the festival.
On the day, students took on a wide range of roles. Photography teams captured still images throughout the event, while degree students conducted interviews with attendees, speakers and guests. Media students were based at the Poetry Hub, collaborating directly with poets and contributors, while a roaming crew covered activities taking place across multiple locations in Bournemouth.
This hands-on experience allowed students to work to a live client brief, developing not only their technical skills in areas such as photography and video production, but also essential professional skills including communication, teamwork and adaptability.
Importantly, the project extends beyond the live event itself. All content captured is now being brought back into the classroom, where it will form part of an ongoing live client brief. This next phase will involve a wider group of Level 3 students, who will take part in editing and producing final content for the festival.
Students are now working towards completing their edits and deliverables, which will be shared with the festival team for use in future promotion, expected to take place from mid to late June.
