A recent Hospitality and Catering Industry Jobs Fair held at The Bournemouth & Poole College was a rather special occasion for Jodie Cooper.

For Jodie it meant a happy return to the place where she learned the essential skills on which she now relies in her key role as General Manager at Pebbles Beach – one of the South Coast’s most stunning restaurants.

College band 'Up In Smoke' will be hoping to bowl over a massive crowd when they go live at the Ageas Cricket Bowl, Southampton, after coming out tops at the annual Solent Sound Festival 2014.

The band, with its line-up of Auburn Lewis, Lennon Yates, Guy Keep, Nick Cowan and Jack Wellman, all second year Level 3 students at The Bournemouth & Poole College, saw off ten talented rivals groups from colleges from across the south to win the award.

Bournemouth and Poole College is taking the lead in a two year project, funded by the European Union, to enhance and develop relationships between colleges which specialise in training recruits for the tourism sector.

The Bournemouth and Poole College has been recognised as a Centre of Excellence in Patisserie and Confectionery by the skills and workforce development charity, People 1st, for delivering a high standard of training in this specialist area.

The recognition makes Bournemouth and Poole College  among the leading education providers in the country delivering programmes  in pastry and confectionery making, and demonstrates its commitment to ensuring learners gain the specialist skills they need to enter the industry.

2nd year Hospitality Supervision students were given an opportunity to shine at the recent Hotel & Catering Show at Bournemouth International Centre recently. They were given a blank canvas in which to design, plan and manage a ‘pop up’ restaurant.

Tutor Josephine Pearce and Emanuel Latis (student restaurant supervisor) attended planning meetings with outside event agencies to set up a rustic restaurant from scratch.  The team worked with James Golding, the Chef from The Pig restaurant in Brockenhurst and an ex-graduate from the Specialised Chefs course at The College.
