The aim of supported internships is to prepare young people with complex needs for paid employment by:
• supporting them to develop the skills valued by employers;
• enabling them to demonstrate their value in the workplace; and
• developing confidence in their own abilities to perform successfully at work.
Over one academic year, interns will undertake three work placements for four days each week. During the placement periods they will spend one day a week in college.
Whilst in college they will undertake employability skills training and relevant English and Maths.
At the start and end of each placement there will be some time spent in college preparing for placements and reviewing them.
Students are set individualised targets to help them build their skills and be better prepared for work and life after college.
Young people with disabilities and additional needs who hold an Education, Health and Care Plan who want to move into employment and need extra support to do so.
