The Jellicoe Theatre 24/25 programme culminates in an inspiring showcase to close the season. The curtain has fallen, the lights have been dimmed, and we reflect on work from the Performing Arts Team alongside Level 2 and 3 students as they brought energy, impact, and inspiration to close the year.

Level 2 Performing Arts students kicked off the Final Major Projects on the 7th and 8th of March with an outstanding performance of ‘Brainstorm' by Ned Glasier, Emily Lim & Company Three. Director Chloe Clarke led a cast of talented students in this exhilarating piece that captured the highs, the lows, and the science behind what makes us 'us'. Students performed to show us how our brains shape who we are. This dynamic, fast-paced exploration of the teenage mind revealed the chaos, brilliance, and contradictions of growing up.

On the 14th and 15th of May, it was the turn of the Level 3 Performing Arts first years bringing Fin Kennedy's 'Domino Effect' to the Jellicoe stage. Led by Director Richard Batt, the ensemble brought original songs to what is an outstanding piece of text. ‘The Domino Effect' followed a young girl as she unearths a hidden history, setting off a series of events that force her to question everything she thought she knew. With dynamic movement, raw emotion, and a gripping narrative, this production kept audiences on the edge of their seats.

Only halfway through the FMP season, and it was time for the second half of our Level 3 Year 1 students to showcase what they had been working on, and wow! On the 21st and 22nd of May, we braced ourselves for James Fritz’s epic 'Parliament Square’.  A text that asks: how far you would go for what you believe in? Led by Director Jon Davis, this production, with its use of music, projection, and technology, shook audiences with thought-provoking, committed, and emotionally raw theatre. It left audiences so stunned, they couldn't stop themselves from letting us know their thoughts.

'The staging was superb, and the students completely engaged the audience. Powerful stuff.'

'I just wanted to let you know just what an amazing piece of drama we witnessed. Your students excelled themselves.

With that...there was one more show...

The Final Major Project!

Under direction of Chloe Clarke and musical direction of Adam Blosse, the Level 3 year 2 students brought us 'Be More Chill'

'Be More Chill' by Joe Iconis & Joe Tracz, is a hilarious and heartfelt sci-fi musical with a killer score! The story follows Jeremy, an average teenager whose life changes when he swallows a pill-sized supercomputer that promises to make him 'cool'...but at what cost?

With a fantastically talented live band, high-energy choreography, electrifying music, and a story packed with humour and heart, this musical proved that sometimes, just being yourself is the most powerful thing of all. It was so impactful that some audience members watched it twice.

Looking back on the phenomenal work from everyone involved, we can’t help but wonder what's next? What we do know is we have a bucket full of inspiration to fuel the next creative journey.
