College Delivers Verified Assessor Training to Dorset Police Staff
Bournemouth and Poole College partnered with Dorset Police to provide training for police employees, who finished their course verified and prepared to take on assessor roles within their own workplace.
Six employees completed the Level 3 Assessor Award and one learner undertook the Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification as part of their training. The college was approached to deliver bespoke training to the police staff team within a short timeframe. Their initial learning was theory online, and then a ‘blended’ approach was used with staff receiving 1:1 support and sessions.
Students studying the course learned to plan and carry out assessments, use a range of assessment methods (such as observations, professional discussions, portfolios and tests), give effective, focussed, constructive feedback and understand quality assurance processes. Holders of the award will be now able to work as assessors in further education, apprenticeships, and workplace training, ensuring learners meet required standards.
Rob, a student studying on the course, said: “I recently completed the IQA qualification through Bournemouth and Poole College using their online system. My Tutor - Helen was great, she was really helpful setting up my portfolio and providing access to lots of sources of information for the subject. It was clear from the start as to what time was available to complete the units and observations for the qualification. The support from Helen was very good, making herself available for telephone calls and on Teams, she then made time to visit and completed my observations around my team availability.
“Working through the units helped me to fully understand the reasons behind processes already in place in our organisation, and to see where we could improve. My experience with BPC was really positive with support available throughout.”
Helen, teaching the course, also commented: “They were all great students - so keen to get the course done, and they committed to the course in a very timely way. It was an absolute pleasure to teach them.”
