Bournemouth and Poole College Student Crowned ‘Apprentice of the Year 2025’ by British Marine
A Bournemouth and Poole College student, Charlie, who studied Marine Electrical, won ‘Apprentice of the Year’, at the Southampton International Boat Show on 23rd September. British Marine put on a great show as apprentices and future talent took centre stage, with a day packed with celebrations, awards, and career inspiration.
The day kicked off with the Apprenticeship Recognition Ceremony, where 75 apprentices from nine top marine businesses were honoured for completing their training. Hosted by BBC’s The Apprentice star Jasmine Kundra, the ceremony featured inspiring words from British Marine President Robert Parton and last year’s Apprentice of the Year, Anisha Roberts, who shared her own journey into the industry.
The highlight came with the reveal of the 2025 British Marine Apprentice of the Year. After a fiercely competitive judging process - the college’s very own Charlie – apprentice at Platinum Marine, took the top spot, impressing judges with his initiative, technical ability, and drive to shape the future of marine electrical.
The judging panel praised Charlie’s determination in securing his apprenticeship, his knack for winning trust on complex projects, and his infectious passion for the industry. Also, his vision to grow into electrical design, mentor future apprentices, and eventually become a leader in the sector himself, sealed his win.
“Winning this award is an incredible honour,” said Charlie. “My apprenticeship with Platinum Marine has given me the chance to learn, grow, and build a career I’m passionate about. I hope to use this opportunity to support others entering the sector.”
James Hills, Director of Learning for Engineering, Professional and Public Industries, said: “What a fantastic result for Charlie. He’s continually sought for greater and greater results, and has studied with a passion, conviction and enthusiasm that shows real grit. We’re really proud of his achievements and how he has done. He has shown us he’s an exemplar student every step of the way.”
British Marine’s event underscored its commitment to developing the next generation of marine professionals—celebrating today’s apprentices while inspiring tomorrow’s.
