Introduction:

This degree is for students who wish to further their dance skills and develop their understanding of the dance field within a performing arts context. As well as the College's specialist dance tutors, there will be a programme of workshops led by visiting dance professionals. It runs at the Jellicoe Theatre on the Poole site of Bournemouth & Poole College.

The course comprises a mixture of practical and theoretical sessions with a strong emphasis on integration of the two elements. Modules include Dance and Health, Physical Theatre and Community Dance. Students will be continually assessed through a series of practical performances, written assignments and oral presentations. 100% attendance is expected to pass the programme.

Entry Requirements:

  • 4 GCSE passes at grade C minimum to include Maths and English or appropriate Key Skills Level 2
  • AVCE Double Award OR
  • BTEC National Diploma or BTEC National Certificate (four merits minimum) OR
  • An Access to Higher Education Diploma

(120 Tariff points from 2 A levels or equivalent.) Preferred subjects: Dance, Performing Arts, Drama

  • Professional Development and Work Based Learning 2
  • Industry Project

Pathway Unit:

  • Performance Exploration
  • Special Subjects Dance

Students will be continually assessed through a series of practical performances, written assignments and oral presentations. 100% attendance is expected to pass the programme.

Course Progression:

Students can progress to a one-year Honours top-up degree (Level H) or employment in a range of performance-related activities.
