Course Overview

The Level 1 Foundation Certificate in Engineering Technology is an exciting course aimed at students keen to explore opportunities within the engineering industry. It provides a solid foundation in practical engineering skills, while also supporting students to develop essential maths, English, and employability skills. The course is focused on helping learners identify and take their next steps towards a successful career in engineering. 

Throughout the course you will:

     Learn about electrical and electronic systems and devices.

     Experience working in an engineering environment.

     Plan and carry out a project in engineering manufacturing.

     Work on your your English, Maths and employability skills.

     Learn through project-based and practical teaching.

     Learn about modern engineering practices including AI, CAD and 3D printing.

This course is ideal for individuals who are interested in engineering and would like to acquire a basic level of knowledge and understanding about the engineering sector. The course also provides an excellent foundation for students who need to strengthen their maths, English, and study skills alongside practical training.

There are no specific grade requirements for this course.

Applicants will be invited to attend an interview, where we’ll discuss your behaviour, attendance record, and personal circumstances to ensure the course is the right fit for you.

A strong interest in the engineering industry is essential. 

A variety of practical assessments, workbooks, and multiple-choice exams will be used to evaluate your progress culminating in a final synoptic assessment at the end of the course.

As part of the course, students will have the opportunity to complete up to 30 hours of work 

Upon successful completion of this course, you may progress to one of the following pathways:

  • Level 2 T Level - Engineering Foundation

  • Level 2 Engineering apprenticeship, either welding or general engineering.

  • Level 2 Motor Vehicle or Marine engineering.

Progression is dependent not only on completing your vocational course, but also on achieving required standards in maths, English, and other elements of your study, including maintaining a high level of attendance throughout all aspects of the course. 

You could enter the Engineering Industry as a full-time worker as a Trainee Engineering Operative, Workshop Assistant or Stores Operative.

These roles could lead to engineering apprenticeships and Level 2/3.

The cost of this course is £150.

This includes registration, exam, and certification fees, as well as the costs associated with enrichment activities and PPE/Uniform.
