Engineering Maintenance Technician (Dual discipline) Apprenticeship Level 3

Learners will typically cover the following areas during their training:

• Health, safety and environmental regulations
• Engineering principles and maintenace practices
• Planned, preventative and reactive maintenance
• Fault-finding, diagnosis and problem-solving techniques
• Inspection, testing and commissioning of equipment
• Use of engineering tools, equipment and measuring instruments
• Communication and team working within an engineering environment
• Maintenance planning and record keeping

Learners will develop the ability to:

• Locate and rectify faults on equipment
• Carry out planned maintenance activities
• Maintain engineering systems to operational requirements
• Test and assess equipment performance
• Apply engineering knowledge to practical workplace solutions
• Work safely and effectively in accordance to industry standards

This course is suitable for individuals of all ages who wish to train as an Engineering Maintenance Technician. To undertake an apprenticeship, you must be employed in a role that is relevant tp the apprenticeship standard.

To apply for this course you must be:

• Aged 16 or over
• Be employed in a relevant engineering role that allows you to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills and behaviours of the apprenticeship standard
• Have employer support and sufficient opportunity to complete the required off-the-job training
• Typically hold GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent qualifications)
• Be able to demonstrate an interest in engineering and the potential to wirk safely and effectively in an engineering environment

Assessment takes place throughout the apprenticeship and culminates in an Apprenticeship Assessment once the apprentice has successfully completed their training and met the gateway requirements.

This assessment consists of:

• Practical Observation with Questions – the apprentice demonstrates their ability to carry out maintenance activities safely and effectively in a real or realistic working environment, followed by questions from the assessor.
• Professional Interview Supported by a Portfolio of Evidence – the apprentice discusses work completed during the apprenticeship and demonstrates their knowledge, skills and behaviours using evidence gathered throughout the programme.
• Multiple-Choice Test – assesses the apprentice's underpinning technical knowledge and understanding of engineering maintenance principles and practices. 

This apprenticeship meets the framework for the ST1443 Engineering maintenance technician - dual discipline approved by Skills England.

As an employed apprentice, you will develop your skills through real workplace experience. You will also benefit from training delivered by Bournemouth & Poole College's industry-experienced lecturers. College sessions will develop your technical knowledge, professional skills and understanding of engineering principles, helping you apply your learning effectively in the workplace. 

On successful completion of this Apprenticeship in Engineering (Level 3), you could progress in your chosen career into Higher Education on a HNC/HND or Foundation or First Class Degree.

Progression onto Higher Apprenticeship Framework Level 4 is also an option.
 

On completion, apprentices can progress into roles such as Engineering Maintenance Technician, Electrical Maintenance Technician, Mechanical Maintenance Technician, Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician or Maintenance Engineer. 

Apprentices may also progress to higher-level engineering apprenticeships or further study, leading to roles such as Lead Engineering Maintenance Technician, Automation and Controls Engineering Technician, Systems Engineer or Manufacturing Engineer.
