Construction skills multi-trade is an exciting course aimed at students keen to explore opportunities within the construction industry. It provides a solid foundation in practical, trade-based skills, while also supporting students to develop essential Maths, English, and employability skills. The course is focused on helping learners identify and take their next steps towards a successful career in construction.
You will study a variety of trades and skills relevant to the construction industry, with a key focus on plastering, bricklaying, and property maintenance.
Introduction to health and safety
Construction Block walling
Constructing half-brick return corners
Preparing background surfaces and applying finishing coats
Producing components from moulds
In addition, you will cover theory-based subjects, including health and safety, an overview of the construction industry, and trade-specific theory linked to your chosen areas of study.
We strive to ensure that the trades covered are in demand within the local area, providing you with the skills needed for current industry needs.
For your safety while working in the workshops, you will be required to wear a uniform and steel-toe cap boots. The uniform will be provided and details will be discussed during your interview and enrolment. Shorts are not permitted in the workshops.
Additional personal protective equipment (PPE) will also be supplied and must be worn during assessments. Please refrain from bringing in your own tools and equipment, all are provided for throughout the duration of the course.
We work closely with industry partners to offer a wide range of enrichment opportunities, both trade-related and non-trade-related. Participation in these activities is mandatory.
Some home study and additional enrichment may take place on non-college days.
This course is ideal for individuals who enjoy being physically active, have a keen eye for detail, and take pride in producing high-quality work. The Entry to Construction course also provides an excellent foundation for students who need to strengthen their maths, English, and study skills alongside practical training.
We require GCSE’s 3-2 in English and maths or Functional Skills at a L1.
Applicants will be invited to attend an interview, where we’ll discuss your behaviour, attendance record, and personal circumstances to ensure the course is the right fit for you.
A strong interest in the construction industry is essential.
A variety of practical assessments, workbooks, and multiple-choice exams will be used to evaluate your progress.
As part of the course, students will have the opportunity to complete up to 30 hours of work
Upon successful completion of this course, you may progress to one of the following pathways:
Progression is dependent not only on completing your vocational course, but also on achieving required standards in maths, English, and other elements of your study, including maintaining a high level of attendance throughout all aspects of the course.
You could enter the Construction Industry as a full-time worker in a General Builder, Improver or Labourer role.
These roles could lead to jobs such as Carpenter, Bricklayer, Plasterer, Ground Worker or General Builder.
The cost of the course is £200.
This includes registration, exam, and certification fees, as well as the costs associated with enrichment activities.
Upon successful completion of this course, you may progress to one of the following roles:
General labourer
Apprenticeship.
