Course Overview
The Construction Skills Carpentry course is designed for students eager to explore Carpentry within the construction industry. It provides a strong foundation in practical, trade-based skills while also supporting the development of essential Maths, English, and employability skills.
The course is tailored to help learners identify and take the next steps towards a successful career as a Carpenter.
During the course, you will study core units including:
Health and Safety
Marking and Setting Out
Produce Wood Working Joints
Produce Carpentry Products
Employability Skills (Interview Techniques, CV Writing, Employer Workshops, Maths and English)
Work Experience
Community Projects
You will also complete optional units and receive training designed to support your progression as a Tradesperson.
This course is perfect for individuals who enjoy being physically active, have a keen eye for detail, and take pride in producing high-quality work. The Construction Skills carpentry course also offers an excellent foundation for students looking to strengthen their Maths, English, and study skills alongside hands-on practical training.
We require GCSE’s at :Levels 3-2 in English and Maths or Functional Skills at a Level 1.
A variety of practical assessments, workbooks, and multiple-choice exams will be used to evaluate your progress.
As part of the course, students will have the opportunity to complete up to 30 hours of work experience. While students are encouraged to source their own placements, support will be provided by a dedicated member of the college team.
In addition, you will take part in mandatory employer-led projects and educational visits, giving you valuable insight into the construction industry and helping to develop your skills in real-world settings.
Upon successful completion of this course, you may progress to one of the following pathways:
- Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry
- Level 2 Apprenticeship in Carpentry
Progression is dependent not only on completing your vocational course, but also achieving required standards in Maths, English, and other elements of your study, including maintaining a high level of attendance throughout all aspects of the course.
Upon successful completion of this course, you may progress to one of the following roles:
General Labourer
Apprenticeship.
The cost of the course is £200.
This includes registration, exam and certification fees, as well as the costs associated with enrichment activities.
You will be required to have steel toe capped boots and basic stationery
For your safety while working in the workshops, you will be required to wear a uniform and steel-toe cap boots. The uniform will be provided and details will be discussed during your interview and enrolment. Shorts are not permitted in the workshops.
Additional personal protective equipment (PPE) will also be supplied and must be worn during assessments. Please refrain from brining in your own tools and equipment, all are provided for throughout the duration of the course.
We work closely with industry partners to offer a wide range of enrichment opportunities, both trade-related and non-trade-related. Participation in these activities is mandatory.
Some home study and additional enrichment may take place on non-college days.
