Creative and Digital Industries Careers’ Day – 17th October
Bournemouth and Poole College held its 3rd Annual Creative and Digital Industries Careers’ Day on Wednesday, 17th October.
This annual event celebrates the four pillars of stakeholder engagement Industry and employers, community and culture, civic and education.
As we welcomed lots of our university partners and other connections from Creative and Digital, to our Poole campus, the event allowed all of our creative students to explore their future career paths, including presentations from industry leaders, panel discussions and stalls.
Our top speakers included Mark Masters and Matt King on behalf of You Are The Media, both of whom undertook panel sessions showing the successes of Bournemouth and Poole College graduates, who are now working full-time in their chosen careers.
Our colleagues from Worksity, based at Bournemouth University, came and showed the incredible work they are doing with local students, as well as a virtual presentation from TAG Live®.
On the day, there were different presentations from staff and outside personnel, including David Hobson’s 3D Animation and Visualisation for Film and Games and Trevor McCready’s talk on Digital Animation and Production .
Representatives from several universities discussed creative pathways in HE with students, including Solent University, Falmouth University and the Universities of Reading and Bath, alongside our very own HE and Careers teams. Also in attendance were Claire Riley and colleague Charley Flexman from Wakey Wakey Arts – a company with two functions. Wakey Wakey Arts has as its primary focus to deliver social impact, working with young people most ‘at-risk’ of continued disengagement with life.
The organisation aims to prevent the negative impact of adverse childhood experiences and offer restoration to those in recovery from poor mental and/or physical health.
The second function of Wakey Wakey Arts is to broker opportunities for practising artists and facilitators to deliver high-quality cultural experiences to young people within the arts, health and education sectors, be that as a part of mainstream or through alternative provision.
Hannah Jones from Arts University Plymouth said: “We get quite a few students joining us from Bournemouth and Poole College, so it’s always good to attend this event. We’ve been the past 3 years and we’ve always been impressed with the high quality of students coming our way”
Reflecting on the event, Stuart Palmer, the Creative and Digital Industries lead at Bournemouth and Poole College, emphasized the college’s commitment to nurturing talent and building bridges between education and the evolving creative sector. This annual Careers’ Day embodies that mission, fostering inspiration, practical knowledge, and networking opportunities to propel students towards rewarding careers in creative and digital fields.
