The Bournemouth & Poole College’s activities are overseen by The Board of the Corporation. It is responsible for agreeing, supporting and scrutinising delivery of The College’s strategy. 

The College Board has 18 members and includes members from the commercial, public, voluntary and education sectors. The Board operates a Committee Structure model and operates strictly in accordance with the Government’s laid down ‘Instrument and Articles of Government’. 

The Board of the Corporation comprises 18 members:

David Ford, Chair of the Board

David joined the Board in April 2015. David is a Fellow of the Institute of Digital Marketing. His particular skills include Marketing, Digital Technology and Finance. David is Chair of the Board, a member of the Finance & Resources Committee, the Search & Governance Committee, the Remuneration Committee and the Markets & Development Committee.  David is Vice-Chair of the AoC National Chairs' Council, representing the South West.

Sue Wellman, Vice-Chair of the Board

Sue joined the Board in March 2018. Sue has over 20 years’ experience as an HR generalist, and has spent the last 20 years as a Management Consultant specialising in executive coaching and mentoring, and organisation, team and management development.  Sue is Vice-Chair of the Board, Chair of Curriculum, Quality & Standards Committee and a member of the Search & Governance Committee and the Remuneration Committee.

Dr Neelam Parmar

Neelam joined the Board in December 2024.  Neelam is Director of Professional Learning & Online Education at AISL Harrow Schools. Neelam is a member of the Curriculum, Quality & Standards Committee and the Markets & Development Committee.  

Dr Grace Lomax  

Grace joined the Board in April 2026.  Grace is a physician and healthcare innovator who has spent her career working with hospitals and health systems worldwide to improve patient care. Trained at Harvard Medical School, she now leads healthcare solutions at Globant, and volunteers her time supporting students exploring careers in health and care. Grace is a member of the Markets & Development Committee.   

Ian Jones

Ian joined the Board in November 2019. Ian is Head of External Engagement at Bournemouth University. Ian is Chair of the Search & Governance Committee and the Remuneration Committee and a member of the Audit & Risk Committee.

John Dale

John joined the Board in October 2019. John spent his early years in broadcasting and education. He now runs a business that works internationally supporting behaviour change in large organisations, particularly around cyber security and environmental sustainability. John is a member of the Finance & Resources Committee and the Markets & Development Committee. 

Lee Hill 

Lee joined the Board in April 2026. He has over 20 years’ experience in marketing, customer experience and business growth, helping organisations better understand customer behaviour and improve commercial performance. A former student of the College, Lee credits his time at the college with providing a strong foundation for a successful career. Lee is Chair of the Markets & Development Committee. 

Mick Dyson

Mick joined the Board in May 2026. Mick is a Chartered Accountant with over 25 years’ senior leadership experience across education and the charity sector. He is Chief Finance Officer at Bournemouth University and a Non‑Executive Director at UK for UNHCR. Mick is Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee.

Mike Kennedy

Mike joined the Board in March 2022. Mike is Head of Finance at Bonnier Books UK. Mike is Chair of the Finance & Resources Committee and also a member of the Search & Governance Committee and the Remuneration Committee.

Professor Elizabeth Mytton

Liz joined the Board in September 2024. Liz is a Professor of Law at Solent University. Liz is a member of the Audit & Risk Committee and is the lead Board Member for Safeguarding.

Professor Emma Hunt

Professor Emma Hunt joined the Board in September 2026.  Emma is currently the Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive of Falmouth University and has spent most of her career in Higher Education, Skills, and Further Education.  She was previously DVC at Arts University Bournemouth and has held roles at the University of Huddersfield, and Derby University amongst others, particularly in the areas of Creative Practice, Technology and Entrepreneurship.  She gained her doctorate at Bath University and has a MBA, MA and BA(Hons) and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Previously a member of Dorset LEP and Cornwall and Isles of Scilly LEP, she currently chairs the Workforce and Skills Board and is Deputy Chair of the Economic Forum for Cornwall Council. Emma is a member of the Curriculum, Quality & Standards Committee. 

Professor Elizabeth Mytton

Liz joined the Board in September 2024. Liz is a Professor of Law at Solent University. Liz is a member of the Audit & Risk Committee and the Curriculum, Quality & Standards Committee, she is also the lead Board Member for Safeguarding.

Rachel Trickey

Rachel joined the Board in September 2024. Rachel is the Local Delivery Lead – Homewards for The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales. Rachel is a member of the Curriculum, Quality & Standards Committee and is the lead Board Member for SEND.

Saba Rubaei

Saba joined the Board in November 2021. Saba works for Citibank as Senior Vice President - Head of International Cyber Regulation Management. Saba has an MSc in Cyber Security and Human Factors. Saba is a member of the Audit & Risk Committee.

Sharon Jones

Sharon joined the Board in September 2023. Sharon works for the Ministry of Defence in RN Maritime Enterprise Engagement. Previously she has held positions in Economic Development, Engineering and Education. Sharon is a member of the Curriculum, Quality & Standards Committee, the Search & Governance and the Remuneration Committee, she is also the lead Board Member for Skills and Careers.

Andrew Rawstron, Co-opted Committee Member 

Andrew joined as a Co-opted Committee Member in April 2026.  Andrew is a Chemical Engineer with more than 30 years’ experience in petrochemicals including national and international leadership roles. He now advises manufacturing and engineering companies how to boost productivity and effectiveness. Andrew is also a passionate advocate for STEM education and support for all, and volunteers for several related charities. Andrew is a Co-opted Committee Member of the Markets & Development Committee.  

Barry Julyan, Co-opted Committee Member 

Barry joined as a Co-opted Committee Member in April 2026. Barry works within the financial services sector and has over 25 years in Risk, Audit and Compliance roles in the insurance industry. He has experience in assurance provision (risk management, internal audit, regulatory compliance adherence, and GDPR assurance), ISO/BS international standards, data security, health & safety, whistleblowing and fraud investigations. He also holds a BEd degree in Physical Education. Barry is a Co-opted Committee Member of the Audit & Risk Committee. 

Caron Khan, Co-opted Committee Member

Caron’s expertise spans several areas, from creative marketing and project management to business development, as well as forming strategic partnerships for private, public and third sectors. Caron was a Board Member from 2020-2026. Caron is now a Co-opted Member of the Markets and Development Committee. 

Kim Welsh, Co-opted Committee Member

Kim is Operations Director (South West) at The Aurora-Group.  Kim was a Board Member from 2024-2026.  Kim is now a Co-opted Member of the Curriculum, Quality & Standards Committee. 

We endorse the principles identified by the Committee on Standards in Public Life (Nolan Committee) for those holding public office and adherence to these standards forms part of the Code of Conduct for Board Members.

In particular, the standards on accountability and openness reflect the Board’s approach to access and publication of meeting papers. This is explained further in Public Access to Board Papers and Confidentiality
