Professional and technical courses for Key Stage 4
You'll gain recognised entry level qualifications in practical subjects.
The majority of courses we offer are from the Department for Education’s performance tables. This means that students gain GCSE equivalent points for the qualifications they complete with The College.
Students in years 10 and 11 can attend The College for half a day or a full day each week to complete recognised qualifications at Level 1 or 2 in professional and technical subjects; including:
- Construction Multi Skills (Brickwork, Woodwork, Plastering and Painting and Decorating)
- Mixed Salon Service (Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy)
- Motor Vehicle and Maintenance
- Uniformed Public Services - Sport - Young Leaders
We are delighted to accept students not only from Dorset, but from Hampshire as well. We also welcome students from local special schools and ASC (Autistic Spectrum Conditions)/SEN (Special Educational Needs) units who would benefit from a college experience. They will gain entry level qualifications in various professional and technical qualifications including caring for others, cookery, motor vehicle, brickwork, sport, retail, media, art and gardening.
Not sure if college is right for you? Come along and experience life here!
We offer taster sessions for Year 9, 10 and 11 students in all the courses we offer. The sessions tend to run for four weeks at a time and give students a snap shot of college life and courses to help them make informed choices about their future.
All students in year 11 on a KS4 course receive a presentation and support from the Advice and Guidance team in college, and are offered the opportunity to take part in ‘Get Ahead of the Game’ . This is a programme which gives students on a KS4 course with The College access to post-16 course interviews AHEAD of students leaving school not studying with us.
