We're a great place to study your A Levels
If you're looking for a Sixth Form College which is fun, gets amazing results and supports you throughout your studies then you've come to the right place.
We’re a specialist Sixth Form
At our Sixth Form College you’ll be taught by lecturers who are experts at what they do and care passionately about their subject. They devote all their time to teaching A levels meaning they are 100% focused on your success and don’t teach any other levels of study.
New A Level reforms
The new A level reforms start to come into place from September 2015 through to 2017; this will result in a modern curriculum with the content revised by experts to ensure you are prepared for the demands of the 21st Century. We will continue to offer the opportunity to take the AS in the first year as the stepping stone to achievement of the full A level after two years.
We are really proud of our students’ successes, with a pass rate of 95% (above the national average for the past five years.) Last year all of our students progressed on to Higher Education, Apprenticeships, vocational training or work after their A Levels.
We also have a fantastic track record for value added. Value added measures your final grades against what you were predicted to achieve when you first started at The College. For example, if you are predicted to get BCC when you arrive at college and go on to achieve ABB, the “value added” is significantly positive. It indicates that the teaching you received was of a really high standard and that your learning experience has been extremely beneficial.
You have options
A Levels don't just prepare you for university and this is what makes our College unique. We recognise that if after you finish your A Levels, you decide university isn’t for you there are plenty of other options. Not all of our A Level students decide to go to university. Typically around 25% of our A Level students decide to go straight into work or choose to become a Higher Apprentice with national and local employers. We work closely with local businesses who offer support to develop your employability skills and provide work experience opportunities.
A supportive environment
Moving from school to a new college is a big decision and it is often thought that there is less support available. This is not the case. While we encourage all of our students to be independent, there are many ways that The College will support you during your time here. The small community of our Sixth Form College with its own learning zone and facilities makes it a very welcoming place for new students.
Your tutors are always on hand to give you support but so are our Learning Coaches. The Learning Coaches are a fantastic team of dedicated advisers who are there to give you advice and help you out with any questions you have while you’re studying with us.
It’s not all about the classroom
There’s plenty more to The Bournemouth & Poole College than just what you learn in the classroom. Not only are we close to the beach, shops, restaurants and cafes but you’ll also get the opportunity to go on exciting trips. You could end up visiting Nettlecombe on a Science trip, The Houses of Parliament for Politics or working with JP Morgan on an insight day for Business and Finance.
Most students only need to be in college four days a week which allows you the freedom to organise your studies the way you want to. Or you could get a part-time job which not only looks good on your CV but means you’ll earn a bit of extra cash.
