In brief...
Apprenticeships are a popular choice for young people aged 16 or over looking for on-the-job training and the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications whilst earning a wage.
Most of your training will be directly linked to the career you have chosen, gaining practical experience in the workplace, backed up by attendance at Bournemouth and Poole College one day a week.
An Apprenticeship in Plumbing and Heating will give you valuable experience of a variety of trade related activities. You will be working on site where your duties could encompass many areas of Plumbing and Heating such as Health and Safety, Communication, Scientific Principles, Hot and Cold Water Installations, Central Heating Systems, Site Preparation and Pipework Fabrication.
Apprenticeships are a great option for school leavers who want to gain a nationally recognised qualification.
An Apprenticeship is equivalent to 5 GCSE's.
Your offer of Apprenticeship training will be dependent upon you securing employment, Bournemouth and Poole College may be able to assist you with this
The Apprentice does not have to pay any fees for this course, however the employer may be required to pay a contribution towards the costs of training.
What courses can I do after this?
You could progress in your chosen career at supervisory / management level.
To do this course you should have...
GCSE's Grade 9-4 (formerly A*-C) in English and Maths or equivalent.
All applicants for an Apprenticeship will be required to attend an interview with the relevant Account Manager undertake an intitial and occupational assessment.
We MUST stress the importance of you contacting employers yourself as without an employer it will not be possible for you to commence training.

Course Content
To gain the full apprenticeship you will work towards the following:
Level 3 Diploma in Plumbing and Domestic Heating (Natural Gas Pathway)

Plumbers will use knowledge and understanding to apply their technical and practical skills:

- Core plumbing systems
- Electrical components and control systems
- Plumbing science and processes
- Principles of environmental technology systems
- Principles of fossil fuels
- Customer service
- Communication
- Safe working
- Core plumbing system techniques
- Electrical components and control systems techniques
- Supervisory skills
In addition to the core skills and knowledge, Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technicians will undertake the Gas pathway, leading to Gas Safe registration.
