The Course

In brief...

This 2-year part-time course has ben developed in full consultation with all the relevant professional bodies, and will give you a solid grounding in activities associated with the construction industry.  This course is designed to provide a range of vocational skills, both broad-based and qualification-specific. The course will be delivered mainly through formal lectures, supported by a system of tutorials, workshops, laboratory sessions, visits and field exercises. Despite the diverse nature of the construction industry, the overall objective of the built environment sector is to provide functional, cost-effective and sustainable buildings and infrastructure. The course structure reflects the common interests across the industry’s various disciplines.

This course is also offered as a degree apprenticeship.

Who is it for?

This course is aimed at people already employed within the built environment sector. The specific careers will depend on the chosen pathway and our graduates gain employment in a wide range of organisations, both in the private and public sectors. Employment opportunities range from working for in-house departments of large public or commercial companies, including local authorities, housing associations and consultancies, to specialist contractors or large multi-service companies offering a range of design, build, finance, and management.

Should you decide to continue your studies beyond the certificate stage, there are progression options to degree-level study. We work with a range of higher education institutions to facilitate entry onto an undergraduate degree. Many universities allow advanced entry onto the second year of a degree, on a case-by-case admission.
