In brief...
NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate / Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care is a one year, work-related qualification for people who are passionate about care. It is designed to expand your knowledge and improve employability, through a mix of theory and practice. You will learn new skills which will be applied through your work placement.
Who is it for?
This course is for students who would like to go into HSC professions but have not achieved the required English or Maths qualifications to study a Level 3 Health and Social Care course.
The aim is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding essential to the health and social care sector, supporting progression to further learning or the workplace.
What courses can I do after this?
It is possible for students to progress on to the Level 3 Certificate / National Foundation Diploma in Health and Social Care if they have demonstrated good attendance, motivation and commitment, and achieved a B grade on the NCFE CACHE Level 2 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care. They will also be required to demonstrate excellent attendance, motivation and commitment at placement.
What jobs can I get?
Students may be able to progress into a range of job roles within the health and social care sector such as:
- Care Support Workers in Adult Residential Settings
- Healthcare Assistants in Community, Primary Care and Acute Health Environments
- Care Support Workers in Domiciliary Services, Supported Living or Day Services
- Community-Based Support Workers.
To do this course you should have...
You will require a minimum of 4 GCSE at grades 3-9 which Include English and Maths. Science will also be required for progression onto some health and social care courses including Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedic Science.
Alternatively, students must have successfully completed a relevant Level 1 qualification and have achieved Level 1 Functional skill in English and Maths.
What about work experience?
Students will be required to attend placement one day per week to ensure they complete a minimum of 30 hours of placement in a Real Work Environment.
Placement supports learning by providing opportunities for learners to apply knowledge to practice, receive feedback, and reflect on their own experience. Placement also provides opportunities for learners to observe professional practice in action and gain valuable employability skills.
To attend placement learners will be required to complete and have a clear DBS. They will be expected to wear a college T-shirt, black trousers and flat black shoes to show they are a college student.
