The International Access to University in Humanities and Social Science is an academic preparation programme for undergraduate entry in Humanities and Social Science subjects. Studying this programme enables you to developing specific study skills and independent research techniques. The specialist options will allow you to focus on areas you may wish to develop to degree level.
The main purpose of this programme is to enable you to gain direct progression to the first year of an undergraduate programme at a UK university. Graduates from The Bournemouth and Poole College have been successful in gaining entry to many leading UK universities.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive an externally recognised qualification: Access to HE Diploma, awarded by Cambridge Access Validating Agency (CAVA).
Who is it for?
This programme is for students who are seeking to follow a Higher Education Degree in a range of Humanities or Social Science subjects, including Psychology, Sociology, Law, Education and International Relations.
Students study: Psychology, Sociology, History, and Global Politics. Students also benefit from personal tutor support and timetabled Study Skills, Academic English and IELTS sessions, to develop language skills and to prepare for studies at degree level.
The total length of study at The College is 8 months.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to progress directly to the first year of an undergraduate programme at a UK university. There are opportunities to continue studying History, Psychology, Law, Primary School Teaching, Sociology, or Social Policy at Honours Degree level. Business, Accounts, Finance and Economics, Advertising and Marketing have also been popular destinations. You will also receive guidance with UCAS applications and progressions routes.
To progress onto a university degree programme students are required to achieve 60 credits at Level 3, with 45 graded and 15 ungraded.
As a guide, most competitive universities will require between 15 and 30 credits at Distinction and a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 for entry to their degrees.

In 2017/18, 100% of International students completing the International Access to University in Humanities progressed to university.

Entry requirements
The course is designed for students of 17 years plus who have completed high school matriculation in their own country.
The general entry requirements for our International Access to Higher Education Programmes are as follows:
- To have completed 11 years of high school with good school leaving qualifications, including relevant subjects (please ask for the specific entry requirements for your country).
- English language at IELTS 5.5, with a minimum of 5.0 in each element, or equivalent.

Course Content
The Bournemouth and Poole College delivers this highly- regarded programme in 6 months. This will include subject specific content combined with core subjects and other modules:
Core subjects and other modules: Preparation for IELTS; Study and Research Skills; Maths; University Placement Advice; Integrated Assignment
Specialist subjects: Sociology; Psychology; History; Global Politics
The programme is externally validated. In order to obtain the full diploma, you have to complete all of your assignments successfully. You will enjoy the following during your study:

Each module is assessed by examination, written coursework or presentation, or by a combination of these.
