In brief...
If you have an interest in childhood this course will develop your skills and knowledge required for a range of careers working with children, their families and the services that support them. The course will draw on a range of disciplines such as history, psychology, education, sociology, welfare and social policy.
Whether you are new to this area or you have experience and you are looking for career development then this course will suit you. The course takes account of the ecology of children’s lives in studying the complexities of family life and of children’s development from conception onwards and the significance of childhood across cultures and societies.
This course is delivered on a Tuesday afternoon/evening at our North Road campus in Poole and lasts for 3 semesters (18 months).
What courses can I do after this?
Successful completion of the BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies degree can allow you to:
- Work in community care, family support, play work, youth work, nursery management, children’s charities and many more.
- Gain further qualifications to become a play therapist or youth counsellor.
- Choose to apply for a Masters in Education.
- Apply to undertake a professional Masters to become a Social Worker.
- Apply to train to become a teacher of Early Years, Primary or Post Compulsory Education.
To do this course you should have...
- Successful completion of the FdA Early Years Services course.
- 240 credits from Level 4 (120 credits) & Level 5 (120 credits) training in an early years related area.

If you are not from an English Language speaking country, you will need to have a minimum of UKVI IELTS 6.0. We accept a wide range of academic qualifications awarded overseas and use the UK NARIC (National Academic Recognition Information Centre) guidelines for international comparisons.
