Sam Davidge, age 22
FdSc Business Computing
"I spent a term at university in Portsmouth, but wasn’t enjoying living away, so moved back to Bournemouth to work full-time. However managing a restaurant and working 12 hour shifts just wasn’t fulfilling, so I decided to enrol at The College on the FdSc Business Computing.
I’d started a similar course at university, so knew this was the right path for me. I’m now coming to the end of my second year and I couldn’t have made a better decision. Especially as the IT industry is growing locally and nationally opening up lots of opportunities for the future.
I left school with no qualifications and with a lot of hard work, I now have a Foundation Degree and a clear direction for my future.
As you get older you realise that time is running away with you and you really start understand the importance of learning. You’re committed to doing well, so you work harder to secure your dream job at the end. And that’s my plan. When I’ve finished this course, I’m going to do a ‘top-up’ year at Bournemouth University to a full Honours Degree. I’ve also set up my own web design business and in the future, the dream is to move to Norway.
It really does helps studying a subject that you’re interested in and that The College have been extremely supportive. They’re flexible as they understand as an adult you have lots of other commitments. I left school with no qualifications and with a lot of hard work, I now feel like I have a clear career direction."
