Triumph as college catering students secure silver and bronze at the Major Series International Final

Success was in the air this week as two catering students from The Bournemouth & Poole College won medals at the Major Series International Final held as part of the annual Hotelympia event at the Excel Centre in London.

Adam Marki-Fejes and Hannah Fisher had already secured their place for the final back in January when the first round of the Major Series regional heats kicked off at the college.

Adam and Hannah made their way to London for the final entitled the “Hot Chicken Challenge” which saw them compete against nine other students from around the country, including Cornwall, Rochdale, Bedford and London.

During the competition, competitors were required to cook two portions of soup and two portions of a chicken dish suitable for a high-end restaurant. And judges were impressed as Adam went on to win the competition.

Adam said “I am so pleased to have won this competition and the prize money will help me purchase some fantastic catering equipment to help me with my career.

“I’m also really excited to be offered the opportunity to work with the Craft Guild of Chefs in their preparation for the upcoming World Skills event. The whole experience has been fantastic and I can’t quite believe I actually won.”

As winner of the competition Adam was presented with a silver award, £750 worth of vouchers; £500 for himself to purchase catering equipment of his choice and £250 for the college and has also been invited to work with the Craft Guild of Chefs.

But college success didn’t stop there as Hannah Fisher was also awarded a bronze medal at the event. Hannah said “I am over the moon. Thank you to Bournemouth & Poole College for all of your support!”

The college offers a huge range of catering courses for all levels including its flagship Apprenticeship programme Specialised Chefs. For more information, visit thecollege.co.uk/hospitality
