Students take action to help foodbanks and the homeless

This December, students from Bournemouth & Poole College have come together to collect items for local foodbanks and the homeless.

As part of the National Citizenship Service (NCS) programme, 72 students from the College’s ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) department have undertaken social action projects. These have included collecting items for the homeless and donations for local foodbanks. On Tuesday 15th December, the Salvation Army came to Bournemouth & Poole College to collect the students’ donations.

Vanessa McMullen, Learning Manager at Bournemouth & Poole College, said “Working with the NCS has been an incredible experience for our students. We’re incredibly grateful to the NCS team for working hard to ensure our students were still able to take part in this life changing programme.

“Through the NCS programme, our students have developed new skills which will set them up for life, as well as learning the importance of helping others. At the end of such a difficult year for so many people, we’re proud that our students have taken action to support those in our local community who need it most.”

NCS is a youth programme that runs across England and Northern Ireland. The NCS exist to engage, unite and empower young people, building their confidence so they can go out there and achieve their dreams, no matter where you’re from or what your background is.
