Joanna lays the foundation for a rewarding career with top housing provider Aster Group

A change in career ambition has proved to be a winning move for Bournemouth & Poole College student Joanna Holmes.

Joanna, 21, from Poole, set out as a catering student at The College, but decided that the heat of the kitchen was not for her and moved into the challenging world of Business Administration.

Her decision has worked out well as her Apprenticeship year with homes provider Aster Group has led to a full-time job offer, weeks before the official end of her Apprenticeship course.

Joanna is already working full-time for the group at its offices in Poole.

Bosses at Aster were so impressed by her aptitude and ability to focus on her Level 2 Business Administration Course, at the Lansdowne site in Bournemouth, that they have recruited her as a full-time Administrator.

Said Joanna: “I began college life in the catering department but found it just wasn’t for me.

“I have really settled into life with Aster and I hope to be with the group for a long time now that I am through the Apprenticeship stage.

“I recommend the Apprenticeship scheme for anyone looking to break into the world of business.”

Jenna Vincent, Senior Assessor for the Level 2 Business Administration course at The College, said Joanna had been a model student.

“She is a lovely person and was determined to go the extra mile on the course. She even took on the challenge of the IT Functional Skills element, which was not strictly required for that part of the course.

“It comes as no surprise that Aster wanted her full-time. They have acquired a real gem in Joanna.”

About 30 students are currently partaking in the very popular Level 2 Business Administration course. The vast majority are linked to potential employers under Apprenticeship schemes.
