Former Apprentice finds ideal career with Marden Edwards

'My college days helped me tap into opportunities I never dreamed possible.' Victor

Former college Engineering Apprentice Victor Cornhill has his career plans nicely wrapped-up. He is carving out a fine career with Marden Edwards, the Ferndown-based family company with a world-wide reputation for the manufacture of complex and sophisticated shrink-wrap machines.

Victor popped in to the college’s recent Open Event at the North Road site to talk to young people planning an engineering career and his message to them was plain and simple. “Look what I’ve achieved with the help of an FE college apprenticeship and the guidance offered by the staff of a great and reputable company.”

Victor continued “I’ve found, if you have the right attitude to work and the commitment along with the support of the college and its tutors, you can unlock all your potential and learn to love your work,"

Victor and Marden Edward’s Manufacturing Manager Mr Russel Mole, were at the Open Event on the look out for potential engineers of the future. Their aim was to raise the profile of Engineering Apprenticeships to the hundreds of visitors at the event.

Said Russel Mole : “It’s essential we tap into our clever and gifted teenagers and educate them in the value of Engineering Apprenticeships. We need ambitious people willing to explore the world of engineering. Why is it essential? Because the UK needs to stay at the forefront in training engineers in order to breathe fresh life into the economy and secure the country’s future."

Victor is walking proof of the opportunities that can arise from a modern Engineering Apprenticeship such as those on offer at The Bournemouth & Poole College.
He said, ''My college days helped me tap into opportunities I never dreamed possible. I studied for four years as an apprentice and the range of skills I’ve learned is unbelievable. The learning curve was steep but it’s also multi-layered, allowing me to explore areas I never knew existed. The knowledge you gain will stay with you forever.''
