The College's Driving School Car was on show at the recent Freshers Fayre

The Bournemouth & Poole College has launched its own driving school to help students add to their skills set.

Learning to drive can be a stressful and expensive experience, especially for young people. That’s why the college is offering student’s special discounted rates for their lessons.

In today’s fast moving world, having a driving license is often recognised by many companies as an essential skill for employees to have.

The driving school is the college’s latest offering that goes beyond simply gaining a qualification. Job skills and life skills are a large part of what the college stands for. They were the first college in the UK to offer Employment Labs with REED NCFE, an in-house recruitment service just for students. Students also benefit from services such as a lively and innovative Student’s Union, and brand new sport facilities The College Fit Rooms.

Head of Student Services at the college, Robin Coe, said: “We’ve already had a big take-up of lessons with our new driving school.

“It is easy to see why. We can keep costs to a minimum and there is a healthy group camaraderie which may well help boost an individual’s chance of success.

“We are in the early stages so it is too soon to talk about pass rates but we’ll be monitoring the numbers. It should be interesting to check how successful the new initiative proves to be.”

Thirty students are enrolled on lessons and two have passed their test already.
