Bournemouth & Poole College team up with celebrity chef to bring taste of India to Dorset

Bournemouth & Poole College has embarked on an exciting new partnership with local celebrity chef, Sarah Ali Choudhury, to host two new Indian cooking hobby courses.

Former college student, Sarah Ali Choudhury, is an accomplished celebrity chef and TV personality who has built a reputation for delivering simple Indian dishes which don’t compromise on taste. Sarah is endorsed by the Tesco Eat Happy Project and The Children’s Food Trust. She is also the winner of the Influential Woman of the Year award from the 2017 Venus Awards.

The partnership was launched at an exclusive taster and demonstration evening hosted by Sarah at the College. Attendees were treated to a range of meat, fish and vegetarian authentic Indian dishes and also had the opportunity to interact with Sarah and taste some of her culinary creations.

Debuting in April, Sarah will be running two four-week ‘Introduction to Indian Cooking’ courses in conjunction with the College at its Lansdowne site. Participants will learn how to prepare an impressive Indian banquet with Sarah’s simple and easy to follow recipes from all over India. The second course will begin in June.

Sarah Ali Choudhury, celebrity chef and TV personality, said: “I am honoured to be given the opportunity to work with the College, since it is one of the leading catering colleges in the UK and one of the top 20 in the world. Many years ago I was a student at the College so I'm delighted to now be offering this course in order to teach the local community how to prepare simple yet delicious Indian recipes.”

Christophe Baffos, director of learning for service industries and chef lecturer at the College, added: “We are delighted that Sarah has decided to come and work with us at the College, to share her passion and knowledge for Indian cooking. As a chef, I know how daunting it can be to be faced with a list of spices and not fully understand how to use them. I helped Sarah on her first demonstration at the College and it was great to pick up some simple tips on the best ways to combine and cook with spices. The hobby courses will be a great opportunity for food lovers to gain confidence and skills in a variety of dishes.”

The first course will run every Monday from April 23 to May 21 at 6pm-9pm. The second course will run every Monday from June 11 to July 2 at 6pm-9pm. The courses cost £99 per course and this includes the cost of all the ingredients.
