Bournemouth & Poole College has achieved a record high in a survey measuring the satisfaction of its Degree Level students.

The annual National Satisfaction Survey (NSS) features a host of questions asking students about teaching on their course, learning opportunities, academic support, learning resources, student voice and the Students’ Union.

In total, 93 per cent of Bournemouth & Poole College students surveyed said that staff have made their chosen subject interesting and the same number said that staff were good at explaining things. These figures are above the National average for Colleges and Universities in England.

Responding to the survey, Toby Gardner, a second year computing foundation degree student, said: "Overall I have had a very positive experience at Bournemouth & Poole College. I found the smaller classes at the College, compared to a university, were greatly beneficial as we had lots of dedicated one-to-one time with the lecturers. The teaching was excellent, the lecturers knew their areas very well, and they were always around if I needed any help.”

Brendan Kirkton, who is also a second year computing foundation degree student, said: “My time at Bournemouth & Poole College has been a wonderful experience. Although I started the course with no real background of coding, I felt that the lecturers have coached me to a very high level in all subject categories. I've had many good experiences on my course, met some new friends, learnt how to use Java code, html and CSS.”

Almost 90 per cent of students who responded to the survey from the College, which has two main sites at Lansdowne in Bournemouth and North Road in Poole, said that the course has provided them with the opportunity to bring information and ideas together from different topics. Meanwhile, 85 per cent of the College’s students have said that they have been given the chance to provide feedback on a course.

Diane Grannell, principal of Bournemouth & Poole College, said: “We want to help each and every one of our students to reach their full potential during their time here at the College and so we value their feedback through the National Satisfaction Survey.

“It’s great to see that we are receiving high scores from our students across the board for the various elements of college life.”

Limited places are still available on the Degree Level computing and IT courses at Bournemouth & Poole College, as well as within the business school. The College works with some of the south’s leading companies to ensure that students leave their education with the skills needed to make a great start in their chosen career path.

At the business school, students benefit from one-to-one mentoring, work placement opportunities, visits to local and national companies, access to high-quality learning environments with the latest technology, guest speakers and up-to-date, relevant courses. Meanwhile for computing students, the College boasts specialist IT suites where they can learn to use the latest software, as well as making useful contacts within the industry through business-led projects and work experience.
