Adults to be inspired to seek further education at College Open Event

The Bournemouth & Poole College is wishing to educate adults about the benefits of returning to education to gain further qualifications at its open event on Wednesday September 27 from 4pm.

It has been proven that learning new skills creates new career opportunities that might not have been available before. Learning empowers adults and helps them achieve their aspirations and career goals. Returning to education also demonstrates to employers that you are willing to work and can easily adapt to new environments.

Glenda Sampson, 41, a full-time electrical installation student at The College, said: ‘‘When I was made redundant I thought it would be a good opportunity to start a new career. It has been a huge leap of faith, but my family has been really supportive and the staff at The College have been on hand to offer advice and guidance along the way.

‘‘Although I am one of the oldest students on the course, I haven’t let this hold me back. Before I started my course I was worried it would be an issue starting college at my age and that I would be judged, but in reality it hasn’t been anything like that at all.

‘‘For those who feel daunted by the thought of returning to education, have the courage to pursue your dream and the career you deserve.’’

Adults have a number of options available to them when deciding which course is suited to not only their chosen career, but also to their lifestyle. The Bournemouth & Poole College prides itself on being flexible and offering a number of study options. Apprenticeships, Access to Higher Education diplomas and higher education courses are all available for learners. These cover a range of subjects including hairdressing, counselling, business, engineering, health, care and education.

Antony Weber-Wright, director of learning, higher education, digital and business at The Bournemouth & Poole College, added: ‘‘We look forward to welcoming those wishing to find out more information about returning to education at our open day later this month. There will be the opportunity to meet with staff and students who will be able to answer any questions, and there will be an opportunity to explore our £28 million facilities. We hope to inspire attendees to seize the opportunity and better themselves by choosing to study a subject which has always captivated their interest.

‘‘With the start of the new academic year, there couldn’t be a better time to embark on a new career or gain further qualifications to enhance your current skills.’’
