This is a 1 year full-time course based at our purpose built facility, The Fulcrum Centre which is situated close to the Tower Park leisure complex.

Having completed a Level 2 Diploma and achieved a minimum of grade 4 in Maths and English, this course is the natural progression for an aspiring tradesman. The course provides advanced woodworking skills, with a mix of practical and theory, and covers a wide range of complex tasks that will help prepare you for your career as a carpenter and our experienced staff will work closely with you to help you succeed.

What courses can I do after this? 

There are a number of level 4 courses that will be available following the successful completion of the level 3 programme.

Progression to a level 4 HNC or HND in Construction and the Built Environment.

What jobs can I get? 

On completion you should have the confidence to gain employment as a Site carpentry improver within the industry and build on your knowledge of supervisory skills gained

You should have Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery and achieved  Grade 4 GCSE in Maths and English

You will cover a range of units in theory giving you the underpinning knowledge to develop supervisory skills. 
Individual units will cover -
The structure of the construction industry. Drawings, schedules of work and costings of work and materials.
Activities in the construction industry. 
Build and physical environments, waste and sustainability.
Maintenance of non structural compoments, including environmental factors.
Complex cut roofs, including truss instalation

You will be taught using a variety of workshop activities, lectures, group activities, self-study, employer visits and directed study.  The facilities in Construction  are purpose built and all practical jobs are designed to make the candidate job ready!
