This course provides professional development opportunities for experienced practitioners working in the school and college workforce.

The qualification will embrace the wealth of experience, proven knowledge and skills of the learner in a teaching and learning environment.

Students will acquire and use skills of leadership, mentoring, coaching and reflection through work-based learning opportunities.

Upon achievement of this qualification, the learner will be equipped as an Advanced Practitioner who can use crucial leadership skills to mentor others across all roles and responsibilities in the school or college workforce.

You may wish to undertake the BA (Hons) in Childhood Studies or a Foundation Degree in Early Years. 

What do I need to apply

To do this course you should have... 

You must be at least 18 years old and employed in a suitable role.  You also will need the opportunity to supervising the work of volunteers or work experience students or Apprentices and/or directing the work of other support colleagues in your school or college. Previous Level 3 study is an advantage.  However, experience, knowledge and understanding of support work in schools or colleges is a essential for this qualification.

Course content

Course Content 

The qualification is comprised of five units:

  • Enabling individuals to learn

  • Understand how to support children and young people to improve their mental health and well-being

  • Working with others to support individuals with additional needs and disability in a school or college setting

  • Working with families and other professionals in a school or college setting

  • Implementing change in school or college setting

College sessions will be held every other month and run alongside assessor visits to the student's school or college.
