The Level 3 Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance is designed to appeal to students who are interested in a career in the Engineering and aviation sector or who are planning to go to university and want to gain a good understanding of aviation.  The content of the course has been developed in consultation with academics to ensure that it supports progression to higher education.  The course includes the opportunity for students to develop the research, communication and critical-thinking. In addition, employers have been involved and consulted in order to confirm that the content is appropriate and consistent with current practice for students planning to enter employment directly into the aviation sector.

Aviation Engineering is a new concept our extremely successful engineering department offering real industry job opportunities and input by guest speakers, site visits and projects to start your career in the aviation engineering sector. The programme has been developed for those who are intending to follow a career in aerospace engineering and wish to follow an alternative route to that of A Levels and Sixth Form. Although the programme is vocationally orientated towards engineering, it will not prevent anyone from selecting other career routes at a later stage. This vocational background also allows entry into the workplace in the mechanical industry, from design and project engineering jobs through to management. The programme consists of associated subjects, making up 80 credits over the two years. During the course, a range of subjects are covered that introduce many aspects of aviation and aerospace engineering.

What courses can I do after this? 

The Level 3 Diploma On Aircraft Maintenance is aimed at students who work or want to work in the aeronautical engineering sector across a range of roles and career routes.   The skills and knowledge acquired through studying this course provide a sound basis if you wish to progress to a degree in Engineering or aviation.

What jobs can I get? 

This qualification is recognised as a technical certificate in the Engineering Technician - Aircraft Maintenance Fitter/Technician (Fixed & Rotary Wing) Apprenticeship Standard, should you wish to progress onto an apprenticeship we can guarantee an interview with an employer. Alternatively, you may wish to pursue a career in Engineering or Aviation and choose to study further on courses at Bournemouth University or at Southampton Solent. Obtaining this Level 3 is the first step to a variety of jobs including:

·         Aviation Engineering

·         Aviation pilot

·         Ground aircraft maintenance

What do I need to apply

To do this course you should have... 

A minimum of 5 GCSE’s Grade 4 and above including English and Maths or a Level 2 vocational qualification with a distinction grade or above.
