Vicky, age 21, Engineering Apprentice at Cynergy 3
"I'm now studying a higher education qualification without the debt of going to university!"
After completing my A Levels I knew I didn’t want to go to university or go straight into a fulltime job, so started to look at Apprenticeships. I had always enjoyed maths and science at school so when an opportunity came up to work for a local engineering company, I applied.
I’ve worked at Cynergy 3 for over three years now. I initially started as a Maintenance Apprentice, before being promoted into a more technical role after my manager noticed that I would be suited to design and development.
My job is really varied and I get involved in lots of interesting projects. I’ve been trained to use Computer Aided Design (CAD) software called Solidworks so I can update design drawings. I also have to deal with customer returns by testing the products for issues and faults.
Since finishing my Apprenticeship I’ve been taken on as a permanent member of staff. The company are very supportive and they’re even paying for me to complete my Higher National Certificate (HNC)!
The best part about doing an Apprenticeship has been the fact that I’ve been paid to learn whilst doing something I love. I’ve loved the college and work experience and really feel that I’ve gained in confidence.
